Other Dolls of Unknown Manufacture

We don't really know who made these dolls or when. Many of them are simply stamped "Hong Kong". So, they are not "collectable" in the usual sense, and therefore usually a bit cheaper than our other dolls, but nevertheless, quite unique-looking.

Virga Doll

We believe these two dolls to be VIRGA dolls dating from the 1950's and made in Ontario, Canada. Both have hard plastic bodies, closing eyes, painted-on eyebrows, and glued-on wigs (rather than the later rooted hair).

'Jenny' Toddler Doll

A small, hard plastic doll with black hair in plaits/braids and a slightly pensive expression on her young face, probably from the ‘70’s or ‘80’s. She’d make a perfect younger sister for our “Brownie” doll or the Ginny Sasoon doll, both of which have painted-on eyes. She stands about 6.5 in/16cm tall. We only have one of these dolls and she will come to you in her original packaging, with her original nightie and nightcap. Price: £20.00. Please let us know if you would like some more clothes for this doll.

Rosy-Cheeked Blonde Doll

We don’t know the name of these beautiful dolls, but we do know that they were made by the New Bright Industrial Company based in Hong Kong, during the late 1960's and early 1970's. They have wonderfully sweet faces and very rosy cheeks, plus perfectly-closing eyes – the ideal younger sister for one of our Krippplebush kids dolls, in fact. (You can see her in the “Edwardian Woodland Picnic Garden” too.) We have three dolls like this - one with long, white blond hair, one with darkest brown hair, and the one shown in the Picnic Garden. (However, please note, that the doll shown in the Picnic Garden has hair which is fixed into place, so this is not the one for girls who enjoy lots of dolly hair styling.) The other two are fine with rooted hair. Each stands about 7.5 in/19cm tall. £20.00. Please let us know if you would like some more clothes for this doll.

Patch Doll (SOLD)

In 1963, Sindy was created by Pedigree Dolls and Toys, specifically as a rival to the phenomenally-popular, American Barbie. With her more wholesome look and huge range of clothes, she became the best selling toy in the U.K in 1968 and 1970. Her little sister PATCH entered the scene in 1966, but was only available for few years, leading to the high price this doll now commands. Patch has painted-on, sideward glancing eyes and cropped, rooted brunette or blonde hair; she measures 9 inches/ 23.5cm tall.

Blonde Toddler Doll with Plaits (SOLD)

A relatively modern doll, with high colouring, stamped "Hong Kong" on her back. She has two long blonde plaits and painted, sideways glancing eyes. Her size and toddler's body would make her the perfect younger sister for our other dolls. She stands 6.5in/16cm tall. Please let us know if you’d like some clothes for this little doll.

35th Anniversary Modern Betsy McCall Dolls

This doll is quite rare, because she was made for only six months in 1986, by the Rothschild Doll Company in Southboro, Massachusetts, USA. She has endearing chubby cheeks, fully- jointed knees, and thickly-rooted hair - ideal for brushing and combing. She stands 7.75in/ 19.5cm tall.

Brownie Doll

We are not sure who made this doll, or when, but she is stamped "Made in China" on her back. She is probably quite a modern doll, and has bright blue eyes, bobbed brunette hair and a sweet, slightly winsome expression. We call her a 'Brownie' doll because she came dressed in a brown tracksuit and yellow cap, and also has an outfit with brown culottes, a yellow t-shirt, yellow cap, and yellow socks - a complete Brownie uniform! She stands 8in/20cm tall. Price: £15.00 for the doll, or £25.00 for the doll in the outfit of your choice, or £35.00 for the doll and both outfits. (Please contact us via our contact page if you would like the second or third option).

Matilda Doll

This shy little creature, with her bobbed hair cut and sideward glance would be the perfect little sister for the Modern Ginny doll, as she stands only 6.25in/16cm tall. She was made by Pedigree Dolls, who in 1963 produced the first Sindy doll. Matilda dates from 1977, and was made in Hong Kong, but she may have been dressed and packaged in their Canterbury, Kent factory - there seems to be a little bit of a mystery surrounding Pedigree's manufacturing at this time.

Matilda came dressed as an old-fashioned girl, with pantaloons under a dress and always with a matching hat. We have three of these original dolls an outfits, as shown, and each costs £10.00.

Madame Alexander 'Maggie' Doll

A relatively modern Mme Alexander doll with an unusual smiling face - if you look at our other Mme Alexander dolls, you will note that they all have a slightly pouty expression, unlike this one who looks a little mischievous! Her long black hair is curled and comb-able, and she measures 8"/22.5cm.

Charming pre-teen doll with her hair in bunches or pigtails, but she looks like she got into her mom's eye make up! She has a nice naughty smile, fully-rooted hair and vinyl body. She's 7.75in/ 19.5cm tall.

Patch Clone

A very curious doll whose hair detaches, but the join can be covered with a headband if desired. She's got side-glancing, painted-on blue eyes and a hard vinyl body. Stands 9.25 in/ 23.5cm tall.

Ginny-Like (Sassoon) Doll

Skinny like the Lesney Ginny doll, but with non-closing eyes, she is a "Sassoon" Ginny doll, made briefly between 1981-1984. She has a slight smile, very thick, long, shiny hair and a little suntan. She stands 8ins/20cm tall, and is available with blonde or brunette hair.

Walking Doll

Given this doll's sweet expression, we believe she dates from the 1950s. What we do know is that she is very well made, with thickly rooted blonde hair, closing blue-grey eyes, rosebud lips and a walking mechanism. (This means that when she moves her legs to "walk", her head also moves very slightly from side to side - a feature only available in the best quality dolls). She measures 8 inches/20 cm tall.

Little Miss Ginger Doll

The tiniest of the early fashion dolls, standing at about 8.5in/21.5cm tall, made in 1958 and a for a few years thereafter by the Cosmo-politan Doll & Toy Co. in Jamaica, New York, USA. She has a rigid vinyl body with a softer vinyl head; her thickly-rooted brunette hair is styled into a short, fluffy bob. She is wearing a flowered vest and panties, but can easily add to her wardrobe because she will fit into most of the clothes made for Ginny. However, we are unable to find any shoes for this doll - in fact, if you have any, please let us know as we would be interested in buying them from you.

Note: the vinyl on these dolls tends to darken or pale over time and indeed is the case with this one - her right arm is very slightly darker than her left, although not hugely noticeable. THIS DOLL HAS BEEN SOLD

Penny Brite Clone

We suspect this little imp was created to mimic the popular Penny Brite doll. She's fairly well-made, with rooted bright blonde hair cut in a bob, and stamped "Made in Hong Kong" on her back. She stands 8in/20.5 cm tall. Given her low price, she'd make a perfect friend for your main doll.

Modified Ginny Doll (SOLD)

An unusual find - this is actually a Sassoon Ginny doll from the early 1980s which has been customized by a doll restorer. She looks as if she's bit stage struck with rather glamorous eyes and reddish lips, and the unlikely, but charming addition of freckles. She also has a very long, curly head of mid-blonde hair. However, she has a slight flaw which we were unaware of when we bought her - her right knee has a very feint blue mark on the outside. If you are interested in this doll, we can send you a close-up photo of this little flaw.

Black Doll (SOLD)

Lovely doll with sweet smile, sideway-glancing eyes, and long black hair. She stands 8in/23.5cm tall.

Top-Knot Doll (SOLD)

A rather pixie-like doll with a completely unique hairstyle, she has brown, painted-on eyes and slightly impish expression. She stands 7.85in/20.5cm tall.
